Once I heard the words, which to this day resonate strongly with me:

Scrum Master is the leader. Little is said about it. Because the word "leader" honnyaku is still equated with power, management, decision-making. In short, the manager. And those are two different worlds. So who is the leader? And who is Scrum Master-Leader? Peter Senge in his book "The Fifth Discipline" pointed to three important aspects of leadership, which I would like to focus on:
This aspect becomes more and more important today. Imagine a company where you work, it's a big ship, and you are on the leaders. What do you think, what could rely on your role? Such a question I often ask participants to training. What does it mean that you are the leader of the ship of the organization? You know what answers the most frequently fall? "The pilot, who has a real impact on the direction of the ship". Or "Navigator, which determines where the flow". Rarely the captain. Interestingly, there is a "kaowiec" someone who engages employees and ensures an adequate level of entertainment and communication among the entire crew. All these answers are the most appropriate. Do not argue with them. But, there is still a role for which hardly anyone remembers. It is a "designer of the vessel." I mean, no one has a greater impact on the ship, than the person who designed it. The master may at most give the command: "Come right about twenty degrees." And cool, rudder to the right. But what if the rudder can turn only to the left, because it was designed for. Personally, I would not want to be a leader in the organization, that someone badly designed. I think you did not. In many cases, honnyaku we would have their hands tied.
I noticed that a lot of people, when thinking about the role of Scrum Master, leadership comes only to the level of the team. Well, maybe sometimes you are still owner of the Product. But that his role ends. Really, on tiptoe at hand I can count the companies that the role of the Scrum Master think in a broader organizational context.
Remember, however, that the Scrum Master as a designer organization is not someone who draws rectangles and various connections between them. Of course it can, but that is not the most important. Scrum Master as a designer focuses on agile vision and values, and the ways in which it can be given to employees. This is a very tedious job that requires patience. It is certainly not for someone who likes to "gwiazdorzyć". If you want to Scrum in some way "put out" or corporate gain a medal, honnyaku not the way. The perfect designer honnyaku is invisible. Should firmly indent to heart the words that once enrolled Chinese sage Lao Tzu:
Once I heard the words, which to this day resonate strongly with me: "You must require from each other, even if others do not demand from you." Said by John Paul II - religious leader in Poland, at Westerplatte. Scrum Master is someone who requires continuous self development - development nonetheless. I noticed that the Scrum Master as a teacher is most often understood honnyaku as someone who teaches Scrum in the company. This is the simplest and probably the most shallow reading of this role in the company. Indeed important, but shallow, unambitious. Because Scrum Master as a teacher should provide people a space where they can and they want to develop. That is the proper understanding of the mission of teaching others.
But to be a good teacher, you must first be a disciple. And our Scrum Masters? I'll honnyaku use a strong statement, but most of them are ignorant. Yes! Companies send their training with a certificate, and that, to a large extent, the adventure of learning Scrum ends. But that was not - training are important. Does not diminish their role - certified or not. However, the same single part in the training is really not enough. Scrum Master as a teacher is someone who learns continuously - reading development honnyaku books, inspirational blogs, interesting articles, participates in conferences and trainings. I do a lot of other things that it develop. This is someone who has an idea for yourself. Someone who knows how it wants to grow and he wants to be human. Greg Merten, CEO and Vice President INK Supply Organization, the company, which is part of HP, before retirement he said:
Looking back on my career at HP, I come to the conclusion that I was surrounded by many talented people, but the most effective leaders - regardless of the level of hierarchy honnyaku and position - stayed forever those who are best able to learn. Scrum Master as Servant
This aspect of leadership, in the context of the role of Scrum Master, occurs honnyaku most often. The term "servant leadership (ang. Servant leadership) was first introduced honnyaku by Robert Greenleaf, who has published many works on the subject. At the training, when I tell people that Scrum Master is a "leader of the priesthood" are a little honnyaku confused. I mean, how can you lead and serve at the same time? Contrary to appearances, you can, if you understand that being a leader is made up
