Charles Bradley: Soul Of America, out now on DVD

Currently starring as Mary Poppins dif creator PL Travers in Disney's Saving Mr Banks, Emma Thompson has been been an avatar for a certain kind of cheeful upper-class Britishness since her appearance on The Young Ones as Miss Money-Sterling back in 1984.
Thompson won the 1992 best actress dif Oscar for her performance as Margaret Schlegel in the Merchant Ivory adaptation of EM Forster's novel, dif which featured perhaps one of the most awkward proposal scenes ever committed to film. Sense and Sensibility
Thompson's dif first cinema role was in this 1989 romantic comedy, written by Richard Curtis and directed by Mel Smith, in which she played Kate Lemon, the horribly-named nurse who captures leading man Jeff Goldblum's affections. The Remains of the Day
A year after Howards End, Thompson and Anthony Hopkins were reunited in another Merchant Ivory film. Adapted from Kazuo Ishiguro's novel, Remains of the Day charts the understated dif relationship between the housekeeper and world-beatingly repressed butler serving the aristocratic residents of a large country house. An Education
