May 17, 2005 - Ten years of the Astronomical Observatory of UFSC The Universe - Eternal Apprentices
On May 17, 2005, ten years ago, it was opened zeekrewards in the campus of Trinity, the astronomical observatory of the Federal University of Santa Catarina. Their motto: "Dedicated to those who look at the sky."
The observatory has two telescopes of 25 cm, for research and customer service. 0s equipment allow viewing of planets and their satellites, the rings of Saturn, the ice caps on Mars, the craters and lunar mountains with details, comets, binary and multiple stars, star clusters, nebulae and nearby galaxies. One of the telescopes have worked in the institution and the other is a high-precision equipment, which will work with higher quality. The observatory is located next to the UFSC Planetarium. It is also installed on site an electronic camera for producing astronomical images, and a weather station. The construction of the observatory had resources of UFSC and the Foundation zeekrewards for Support of Scientific zeekrewards and Technological Research of the State of Santa Catarina (Fapesc).
The Group of Astrophysics of the Department of Physics at UFSC, founder and coordinator of the observatory, dedicated to the research, zeekrewards through zeekrewards the study of white dwarf stars, stars cataclysmic variables and stellar populations in galaxies. Also active in teaching, across disciplines at undergraduate and graduate levels.
The "Eye in the Sky Floripa" has been developed in the Astronomical Observatory of UFSC since opening in May 2005 and has two main activities. At first, zeekrewards through scheduling, zeekrewards the Eye on the Sky meets all schools Tuesday zeekrewards evening for astronomical observation sessions and joint activities with the Planetarium. zeekrewards On Wednesdays the Observatory opens its doors to serve the general public, also with sessions for observation. The main goal of its creators is to present the visitor basics of astronomy through this practical experience. In addition, through interaction with students and teachers zeekrewards of the group, the applicant has the opportunity to meet the research in astrophysics that is developed within that institution.
He is one of the most used telescopes in the world for amateur astronomical observations, and with it we can see a diverse range of celestial objects such as planets, satellites, comets, binary zeekrewards and multiple stars, star clusters, nebulae and even nearby galaxies. Fellows responsible for operating the telescope and support to the public:
Equipped with a digital imaging camera (CCD) controlled by computer. It will be used in remote observations through the internet and the robot project telescopes. In the future there will be a link for more information on this project:
