RAE states un empell n means an over-achieving student. What is the term for an under-acheving stude

In Mexico, a very good student used to be "un cerebrito" or "un matado"; lately they're called "nerds", borrowing the English word. An underacheiver is someone who is smart but doesn't show much effort to learn in school. I think slaker is the word in English An overacheiver is someone who may not be too smart but works hard(empoll n). I think striver is the word in English. Hmmm... I don't think students here can be tagged so precisely. Seg n el diccionario, se trata de alguien "que prepara mucho sus lecciones, y se distingue m s por la aplicaci n que por el talento"; es decir, es un estudiante que se esfuerza mucho, pero logra poco. Eso que dice la RAE yo lo interpreto como que ambos consiguen lo mismo, pero uno con m s esfuerzo, o sea, m s aplicaci n que talento. Para m , no es un underachiever = flojo Empoll n, de empollar, como una gallina, se toma el tiempo, pero ve los resultados. Ves?
